Coloring Is No Longer Just For Kids

Have you jumped on the adult coloring book craze yet?

You can’t walk into a bookstore without seeing them front and center. With so many great options to choose from, you can find something to please everybody.

When I recently saw an article from the Huffington Post titled “7 Reasons Adult Coloring Books Are Great for Your Mental, Emotional and Intellectual Health”, I knew it was a no-brainer, and it was time to get on board.

Finding the perfect one took some time for me. With so many intricate patterns, some had me feeling overwhelmed just looking at them.

With coloring book and colored pencils ready to go, I was ready to embark on doing something I loved doing in the past.

I know I am not alone here. Don’t you remember getting your brand new box of crayons before starting a new school year? What about the excitement when you finally starting using the box with 64 crayons and the sharpener in the back? Endless possibilities in one box of crayons!

Maybe you didn’t know it at the time, but now you can see how coloring is all about being in the present moment and just having fun — the chance to let go of your worries, your list of things to do and your stress of everyday life. Coloring can be a chance to connect as a family gathered around the table. Gather the kids, a few coloring books, yourself and watch the conversation flow.

Being in the present moment allows you to be aware of your own life and make the most of it—without becoming overwhelmed by the past or the future. Coloring can be a tool in your arsenal to help you stay in the moment and clear your mind.

Have you been coloring? Any great tips to share—favorite books or tools? I would love to hear what bubbled up for you when reading this post so feel free to comment below.  Should you have any questions or want to connect, you can reach me at
