Waking up this morning to a winter wonderland was nothing but magical. The wet snow clinging to the branches of the trees before making its descent to the ground was awe-inspiring.
Seeing the snow clinging to the trees had me wondering where in your life might you be clinging to something that no longer adds to your life in any way? It could be a relationship that no longer brings you joy, a belief system that needs updating or letting go of expectations you place on yourself and others.
Holding onto things that no longer serve you can be life draining. Living from this place keeps you from experiencing life to it’s fullest.
What you may need to let go of depends on where you are in your life. When I started blogging almost a year ago, I had to let go of the story I told myself that I’m not a writer. Letting go of this story has not been easy for me and it crops up each time I go to write a new blog post. Thankfully, my negative self-talk about my writing is starting to lessen its hold on me.
Do you find yourself always comparing yourself to others? At times I find myself doing this, and it just sends me down the rabbit hole of“compare and despair”. Not where I want to go!
Asking yourself these powerful questions can help determine where in your life you may have an area that could use some letting go.
- Does this relationship bring me joy by being in it?
- Am I holding onto a belief system imposed upon me by others or society or my own self-imposed false expectations?
- What would my life be like without (fill in the blank)?
- Am I holding onto something out of obligation that was given to me?
- Is my negative self-talk or constant “compare and despair” holding me back?
The process of letting go is not always easy (ask Elsa!), but it can be so liberating!
You may already be aware of what needs to be let go, or it may take some digging around to see what comes up for you. This is when working with a coach can be beneficial. Someone to support you along the way regardless of what comes up for you!
