I’m not sure about you, but I love geeking out on all things personal growth. So when a friend recently shared a personal growth book she was listening to I was quick to check it out. The book is Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be by Rachel Hollis.
Between the title of the book and the fun cover, I was ordering my copy from Amazon in no time flat. (As much as I do my best to teach my kids the downfalls of instant gratification, I do love my Amazon Prime. Oops…)
The book takes a closer look at the lies we tell ourselves without even questioning them. Yep, our minds have been hijacked by all those negative subconscious thoughts again leaving us “overwhelmed and unworthy.”
Lies we tell ourselves can include:
- “I’m not good enough”
- “No is the final answer” (loved this one)
- “I need to make myself smaller”.
- Do find these lies or others showing up in your life?
Rachel is so full of wisdom, and I’m not sure how I’ve never heard about her before. Checking out her social media, I saw that she had a documentary that was playing in theaters over two nights.
So just like the instant gratification of being on Amazon, I purchased two tickets to have an evening with Rachel. And what an evening it was!
Leaving the theater, my mind was rapidly swirling with everything she shared and taking it all in.
Among the documentary takeaways, the one that I’m noodling on most is the concept of following your dreams. I’m not a dreamer by nature so this concept doesn’t come easy for me. I’m more of a “letting life unfold” kinda girl.
Don’t get me wrong. Living an intentional life is always on my radar….some days more than others.
What I’m coming to see is having a dream and living with intention can go hand in hand. And I can let life unfold in the process.
How about you? Do you find it easy to dream? Our negative thoughts can keep us from dreaming big–they keep getting in our way.
Rachel reminds us over and over again that nobody is going to care about your dream as much as you do – even your supportive family and greatest friends.
Even though it’s YOUR dream, do you feel stuck dreaming only as big as what you’ve already done in your life? We can become stuck thinking we can’t dream any bigger than what has happened in our past. Yep, the comfort zone sure is cozy!
Let’s dare to dream big!
