WELCOME, I'M Anne!

How taking imperfect action can lead to a more meaningful life

Raise your hand if you’re someone who likes things to be within your control.  Don’t be shy…I know my hand is fully raised in the air.

Don’t worry…I’m not going to call you a control freak or anything remotely close to that. Let’s just say you have a clear vision of how you like things to turn out.  Sounds much better, right?

As much as you may want to have control of the situation, the truth is you’re only in control of yourself.  If you have kids, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Wanting to be in control can look different for everyone.  What I see as something that adds value to my life, my family may see differently. For example, I’m very organized by nature. When things get messy, I find it much harder to function in my day-to-day.

Having the desire to be in control can also lead to the “P” word.  Yep, perfectionism!”

This word is surrounded by such negativity, that many prefer to distance themselves from being associated with it. It can easily lead to denial and thoughts of “Who me?”

Let’s just say that you like to be in control, and are also a perfectionist. No judgment here! I’m not calling anyone out, so stick with me.

While that may seem like a good way to live your life, I want you to ask yourself if it adds more meaning to your life.  Does it add to your relationships, overall quality of life, and happiness? The answer may be “yes”, and the answer may be “no.”

If you happen to be one of the few who thrives on being in control, who is high on the perfectionism spectrum, and who finds happiness in this space, stick with it because you have found something that works for you.

If you happen to be like most of us, who aren’t really thriving as you strive for perfection, I would like to offer another way of moving forward in your life.

What about taking imperfect action in most things you do?  You’re taking action. You’re still moving forward, but it doesn’t have to be perfect.

I can’t think about imperfect action without thinking about its sister “imperfectly perfect.”  The concept is that everything (yep, I mean everything) can be “perfect” when you look at it from a new perspective…the one that see the perfection in the imperfection.  Isn’t that a mind-bender?!?

The idea of being imperfectly perfect may feel really scary to you. Ignoring the pile of shoes by the door in order to enjoy a book may freak you out a bit. I’m asking you to step out of your comfort zone and go about your life in a way that may be totally foreign to you.

What if stepping out of your comfort zone could lead to a more meaningful life?  And don’t we all want to live a more meaningful life?

Neale Donald Walsch said it so well with “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Creating a more meaningful life can be so rewarding, but it’s not all unicorns and rainbows along the way.  Whatever it looks like, it’s all part of your journey.

When you’re ready to begin your journey and create a more meaningful life, let’s chat.  I am here to support you in creating a life that feels right to you.  It doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing, this is all about YOU!

What’s one area of your life that could benefit from being seen from a different perspective?  Remember there’s no right or wrong answer.
